Casa di Goethe interventioni

A project by studio mut.und.anmut in collaboration with the Casa di Goethe Museum in Rome to mark the 25th anniversary of the Casa di Goethe.

Interventions in permanent exhibitions are quick, playful and challenging – and therefore an interesting way to embark on the process of revamping or redesigning a museum. For the Casa di Goethe in Rome and the team led by its new director, Gregor Lersch, the museum’s 25th anniversary was a fitting occasion to look to the future. They therefore invited students of Visual Communication to examine the existing exhibition and put forward proposals on how it might be further developed. The Casa di Goethe focuses on Goethe’s journey to Italy between 1786 and 1788. How did Goethe travel – and how do we get to Rome today? What was Goethe seeking here – and what do we hope to gain from a trip to Italy? How did Goethe perceive Italy’s proximity to North Africa – and how does it strike us today? Until December 2023, there is an installation to discover in every room of the permanent exhibition, which re-examines Goethe’s Italian Journey through a contemporary lens.
